HOLZER NAMED 24 CETRONE COACH OF THE YEAR RECIPIENT

Upper St. Clair Head Coach Danny Holzer has been named the winner of the 2023-24 PBC Dick Cetrone Coach of the Year award.

The Upper St. Clair 2023-24 season speaks for itself. 22-6 overall record, WPIAL 6A champion and PIAA 6A quarterfinalist. Truly one of the best seasons in recent Upper St. Clair Basketball history

The Cetrone Award is named after legendary Sto-Rox Basketball Coach Dick Cetrone, who was the founding father of the Sto-Rox Basketball dynasty, winning 1 State championship, 5 WPIAL Championships as well as 10 Section Titles. Coach Cetrone’s 1983 State Championship team was Pennsylvania’s last 32-0 undefeated state champion. The feat has since been matched by New Castle (31-0 in 2014) and Aliquippa (30-0 in 2016).

Danny will be presented with their award at the 2025 PGH HS Classic at North Hills High School as we kick off Hall of Fame week at half time of a game to be determined on January 25-26, 2025.

2024 PITTSBURGH HIGH SCHOOL CLASSIC TO BE HELD AT NA JAN 28 2024

 

The annual Pittsburgh High School Classic makes its debut at the UPMC Arena on the campus of North Allegheny High School on January 28, 2024. Please come support the teams as we support the 2023 Hall of Fame Class. Tickets are only $10.00 for adults and $3.00 for students. ( no individual tickets will be sold)

HALL OF FAME TO HONOR 73-74 PITT FINAL 8 TEAM

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club Hall of Fame committee is honored to announce we will honor the 50th anniversary of the 1973-74 Pitt Panthers at this year’s Hall of Fame Brunch on February 3, 2024 at Chartiers Country Club.

This amazing team, made up primarily of players from Western PA finished with a 25-4 record and #16 national ranking including a school record 22-game winning streak. This amazing team reached the NCAA Elite 8, losing to the eventual national Champion, North Carolina State.

2024 LEGENDS CLASSIC AT MOON SET TO KICK OFF HALL OF FAME FESTIVITIES

PBC ANNOUNCES CLANCY AWARD AS WESTERN PA’S TOP FORWARD

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is proud to announce the formation of the Sam Clancy Award for Western Pa’s Top Senior Forward.

The award is named after the great Sam Clancy. Long considered one of Western Pa’s top forwards, Sam was the anchor of the great Fifth Avenue and Brashear High School teams of the mid 70’s. As a great scorers and rebounder, Sam was considered one of the top players in not only the state of Pennsylvania, but the entire nation.

He was honored with All City and All State honors as well as a starting position on the Pennsylvania team in Sonny Vaccaro’s legendary Dapper Dan Roundball Classic. Sam was considered one of the top recruits in the nation.

Sam continued his basketball career at the University of Pittsburgh where under Coach Tim Grgurich, he was one of the top performers in the history of the Eastern 8 Conference. As a Senior, Sam led Pitt to the NCAA tournament second round, losing to eventual Final Four participant North Carolina. He was drafted in the 1981 NBA draft in the fourth round by the Phoenix Suns.

Sam remains one of the top scorers and rebounders in Pitt’s illustrious basketball history. Sam’s career point total of 1,671 and rebounds of 1,362 remain among the top careers in not only Pitt history, but the Eastern 8/Atlantic 10 Conference. In addition to these honors, Sam also represented the United States at the Pan Am games where he won a Gold Medal at the World Championships under legendary Coach Bob Knight.

Sam’s was not limited to greatness on the hardwood. After completing his basketball career he went on to a distinguished career playing professional football for the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, and Cleveland Browns.

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is honored to create this award for one of Western Pa’s all-time best. A watch list for Senior Forwards under consideration for this annual award is being developed with area High school coaches and local media. The first annual Clancy Award will be selected at the completion of this year’s High School season and given in April 2024 at the first annual PBC Awards Lunch.

PBC ANNOUNCES FLENORY AWARD AS WESTERN PA’S TOP GUARD

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is proud to announce the formation of the Baron “BB” Flenory Award for Western Pa’s Top Senior Guard. The award is named after the great Baron “BB” Flenory.

 
Long considered one of Western Pa’s top guards, BB was a prolific scorer at Valley High School scoring over 1800 career points. He was honored with All WPIAL and All State honors. He was selected as a starting guard on the Pennsylvania team in Sonny Vaccaro’s legendary Dapper Dan Roundball Classic. BB topped his great prep career by being one of only 13 Western PA natives to be named to the elite Parade All America team.
 
BB continued his basketball career at Duquesne University where under Coach Mike Rice, he was one of the top performers in the history of both Duquesne University and the Eastern 8 Conference. BB remains one of the top scorers in Duquesne’s illustrious history, where his pre-3-point line career 1,382 points still ranks him amongst the schools top all time scorers.
 
The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is honored to create this award for one of Western Pa’s all time best. A watch list for guards under consideration for this annual award is being developed with area High school coaches and local media. The 1st annual Flenory Award will be selected at the completion of this year’s High School season and given in April 2024 at the 1st annual PBC Awards Lunch.

2023 PBC FALL LEAGUES KICK OFF 9-19-23

The 2023 PBC Fall League will kickoff with games at Moon High School, Montour High School and Central Catholic High School September 19, 2023. Find below master and individual team schedules. Please join us for a great preview of the 2023 Basketball season.

The Pittsburgh Basketball Club is  honored to announce the following have been selected for the Pittsburgh Basketball Club Men’s Hall of Fame Class of 2023 in the Legends, Coaches and Contributors Division. Under separate cover, we will also announce those selected to receive the Community Distinction and Courage Awards.
 
The class of 2023 will be honored at the Pittsburgh High School Classic January 27 and 28, 2024 at Montour High School and inducted into the Hall of Fame at the annual Hall of Fame brunch at Chartiers Country Club on February 3, 2024. Ticket information will be announced in the coming weeks.
